A chapter illustration for the best book series. Ever.

Thisbe was my favorite character while watching Cinderella at the San Diego Opera so I had to paint her.
1. Baba Yaga IS picking her teeth w/ a bone.
2. There are two chatty skulls that are BFFs.
3. Does Baba Yaga even wash her clothes? No she doesn’t. This is why she needs kids to do her chores.
4. This nesting doll will apparently also do your chores if you’re having a bad day. (I need me a nesting doll.)
Through all the ups and downs in my early childhood, I always knew that I would find comfort and strength in my books. I wrote my feelings about books being my personal safety net in a post on my blog. I’m forever grateful to all my writer and illustrator heroes.
There was a shooting near our home and I illustrated this for #kidlit4gunsense in thinking about the fears of my children have in returning back to school.

The Girl With a Ribbon
“Do you think I am an automaton? — a machine without feelings? and can bear to have my morsel of bread snatched from my lips, and my drop of living water dashed from my cup? Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! — I have as much soul as you — and full as much heart!"
